What’s happening on the farm: Lucerne flea damage developed quite rapidly on the flats. Once identified, the heavily infested areas were sprayed. Some heavily damaged areas will require some over sowing. Paddocks will be closely monitored to ensure populations do not flare up again. Stinging nettles have been germinating at a rapid rate throughout paddocks. Most newly sown pastures have now been sprayed to control stinging nettles and broadleaf weeds.
24 cows have been dried off for July/August calving. Another 30 cows are due to be dried off by middle of June. This will reduce the pressure on our feed wedge.
